Oscar nomination day?
This comes straight from the "Are you Fucking Kidding Me" department. Milk? Frost/Nixon? I can see Button and Slumdog being in the mix, but The Reader? Good movies all, but none come close to Revolutionary Road. Not by a longshot. Today is one of those days that makes electroconvulsive therapy look pretty good. Perhaps the Academy would benefit from a few courses of treatment?
So as I sit here convincing myself not to smash that folding chair in the corner against the wall, let me reflect on this - Micheal Shannon got the nod for best supporting actor. Part of me feels a sort of vindication in that alone, yet the other part which tends to speak a little louder says "whoop-d-fucking-do!" It is a given that Heath Ledger will get the statue. Brilliant performance by poor ol' Heath, but he is dead, is he not? Should'nt they at least give it to someone who can actually make the walk up on stage to give the damn acceptance speech? Now if Industrial Light and Magic could figure that one out, then maybe it would be a good pick, otherwise award it to someone with a pulse. Just my humble thoughts on the subject.
Time for my meds. Your thoughts?

Couldn't agree more, and was never a fan of posthumous awards anyway. Your performance was brilliant and convincing. Why did the film not get nominated at all? Was it a timing issue? Revolutionary Road is one of those films that you want to discuss with others and that stays with you for a long, long time. Thanks for having this forum. Look forward to more from you.

I agree with the other comment. I was blown away by all the performances (finally saw the film last night) but especially by yours. The fact (new to me)that this is your first major film is even more amazing. Your character is most pivotal in the story, THE crucial catalyst, and you hit it out of the park. You absolutely deserve the Oscar. Yes, Heath was great, but didn't he deserve it more for Brokeback Mountain? The Academy is not always rational in its judgement. In time, they and the public will realize it missed mark on this one. You will undoubtedly get more juicy roles after this turn. If not, there is no justice in the world. You OWNED that role. I cannot emphasize how brilliant your performance was (as a complete layman, but a huge film buff).
It's a given that Kate and Leo are ferocious, but you gave the most blistering performance of any "newcomer" I have ever seen. And I have seen my share of great performances in my 40 years on Earth. Best of luck to you in your career, and please try not to be bitter after this experience. If I were a voting member of the Academy (I wish I were) I would give you my most enthusiastic vote for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. I'm sure I'm not alone, in the least. Can't wait to see you in future roles.

Im so sorry, I hadn't seen your full film biography before I wrote the above. I have seen "Before the Devil" and "Vanilla Sky", but didn't realize you were in both (and in theater - I'm in California, so haven't had the pleasure) and TV. Well, I don't watch TV. Quite a good resume. My mistake. Incidentally, I meant to say above that I can't emphasize "ENOUGH" how brilliant your performance is in Revolutionary Road. Editing fail.

I'm so happy to know that Slumdog won 8 Oscars. Kate is really an expected winner.

This year's Oscars is one of the most exciting. Especially the long awaited rivalry between Winslet and Streep. Honestly, it was like a highlight match in a wrestling pay-per-view, with an always defeated underdog with potential defeats the champion and wins the belt! When Kate Winslet won, I was just crying buckets because I wanted her to win SO MUCH! Streep has had her time. It's Winslet's now.
I haven't appreciated your character until I saw the film. Gosh, I see this character who rants and raves about anything, only to find that he is doing it all subconsciously. It takes someone like Shannon to embody that character! It might seem easy, but the mentally pathologic state of the character makes it more interesting.
With all honesty, I did not like that Ledger won (don't haunt me!). It feels so compelled that he has to get the Oscar. Brolin, Downey and Shannon were the best!
This year's Oscars might seem sleepy, but finally, I'm glad to say-- THEY GOT IT RIGHT AGAIN
